The Sinjar Mountain
Sinjar's community members once were a mixture of different ethnic and religious groups. Yazidis, Arabs, Kurdish Sunnis, Shiite Turkmen, Shabaks, Christians and others lived there in close proximity.
When Daesh invaded Sinjar on 03. August 2014, this community was destroyed by the genocide of the Yazidis.
Today, there is a deep mistrust and also hatred between the individual groups and it is not foreseeable whether and when they will come back to a living together and if reconciliation is even possible.
Daesh not only committed a genocide of the Yazidis in Sinjar, but at the same time, this terrorist militia sought to destroy the livelihood of the Yazidis in Sinjar, many of whom worked in the agricultural sector.
Daesh sabotaged wells necessary for irrigation, plundered agricultural equipment, destroyed orchards and exposed mines and booby traps that have not been cleared to this day in parts of Sinjar.
